What type of internet connection do I need to access the APT Methodology?
APT Online is easily accessible over
a 56k modem internet connection. If your internet connection is fairly
unreliable we suggest you use APT Professional which provides all
the same features as APT Online but without the need for an internet
connection.
Can you export APT tasks and acitvities
into a project scheduling tool?
Yes. You can selectively export Phases, Tasks and Acitivies
from APT into an MPX format that can be read by MS Project or any
other scheduling tool that reads MPX files.
Where are the generic document templates
kept in APT?
All generic templates are in the Standards section under the
Documentation Standards. Each of the headings shown will have a table
of contents which you can edit and use as your own template. Direct
links to the templates are also found within the Methods section under
the deliverable section for each Phase. For example, the Feasibility
Phase will have a link to a template Feasibility Report.
What is the difference between the APT
project templates and the document templates in the Standards Section?
Your Project Templates consist of a list of Phases, Activities
and Tasks (your Work Breakdown Structure) of your projects. APT provides
the mechanism to create your Project Templates, based on the APT Methodology
allowing you to use re-use the same framework for similar projects.
The Document Templates are there to assist with completing the deliverables
from Project Phases.
What does APT produce that I can take to
meetings for reporting purposes?
Each Phase of the methodology has a set of Deliverables listed
within. The Deliverables can be found in the Methods section under
Phase Detail . All Phases in this section are laid out in the same
format for ease of use. Links will take you to other sections of the
methodology as and when you need.
How do I structure APT to be used correctly
in a multi user environment?
Once APT is installed it can be used straight away. There are
two areas that can be considered once it is in use. The first is the
administration of APT and the second would be the implementation of
a project office. Both of these can be as sophisticated or as simple
as your needs require. Basically the role of the administrator is
to be a central point of reference for updating the methodology as
we send out update confirmations and to control the flow of integrating
the methodology into your business and/or quality processes. They
would also be part of the initial process design to perform this task.
The project office in its most basic form is the environment that
you set up to manage and control the overall portfolio of projects.
We have our own Project Management Standards,
Guidelines and Document Templates. How can APT fit in or around our
own standards?
APT Systems encourages clients to customize the methodology
around your own standards and templates. If you already have many
of these when you implement APT then your job is so much easier. As
we update the overall methodology, your templates and standards are
there to provide the detail. The APT Methodology tells you what to
do (with example templates), not how to do it. Your processes and
standards are 'the how'.
How does the APT Methodology document a
project? Our organisation uses a Project Charter.
The APT Methodology uses a Project Execution Plan (PEP) to manage
the project planning process. An outline PEP can be found in Section
2.7.7 of the Management Manual. Our new Internet APT Library also
includes some PEP Templates.
Do you have any templates or sample documents
I could refer to?
a) In order to assist our clients we are building up an APT Library
of templates and sample documents and making them accessible on the
Internet. The following documents are currently available:
- PEP Template to be used as a guide for developing
project plans
- PEP Template for a Full Development Project
- PEP Template for a General Consulting Assignment
- Sample PEP for the organisation of a Training
Course
b) The templates section of the APT Online Hot-Line (for registered
customers), has now been updated and includes Forms, Sample Documents
and Templates. These can all be downloaded and customized for individual
use.

Documents, Templates
or Forms.
What settings do I need to change in Internet
Explorer to run APT Professional when it is configured to run through
a proxy server?
Click on Tools, Internet Options. Select the connections tab, click
on the LAN button, then click on the Advanced button. The Proxy settings
dialogue box will be displayed. Type in the text "iapt" into the Exceptions
box at the bottom of the screen.
Does the APT Methodology include a section
on Internet Development?
Release 8.0 of the APT Methodology was a major release updating the
project lifecycle with the new Web Development (WEB) phase and many
of the other phases with web development activities. The new phase
is supported by a new Web Development Guideline and Web Architecture
Manual in the Standards Manual. The Management Manual has also been
updated with web development roles and responsibilities.
Do you have any information on setting
up and executing an acceptance testing sub-project?
a) The Standards manual, Section 1, Part 7 provides a template of a broad
Acceptance Test Plan. Note the plan should cover such areas as the establishment
of the environment, training requirements, problem management and completion
criteria (or when will it be accepted?).
b) Testing processes are discussed in the Acceptance Test Development and
Test Phases of the Methodology. The Application Support phase also discusses
testing in a past implementation environment.
